- Activities in Promotion of United Nations Global Compact
Our Confederation has carried out, together with United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP), the promotion in Turkey of the Global Compact launched by UN
Secretary General Kofi Annan.
Inline with this, an agreement was signed between our Confederation and UNDP on
27 January 2003. However, our promotional activities had started in October
2002.
The agreement aims at promoting the Global Compact at certain selected priority
provinces through training seminars, targeted conferences, sharing of
experiences and documents as well as implementing the 9 fundamental principles
relating to human rights, labour standards and environment in the private sector
enterprises in Turkey.
Many Turkish companies have signed the Global Compact the promotion of which has
recently started. It is estimated the number of signatures will increase rapidly
as the instrument is based on voluntarism.
Our Confederation is of the opinion that the Global Compact affects the
companies which adopt the 9 fundamental principles and reflect them to their
practices, through strengthening their images in the international markets,
helping integrate with world economy, and adding new dimensions to their social,
economic and commercial relations.
In the above mentioned period, TÝSK organized 4 international seminars in
various provinces of Turkey.
